This philosophy is what Steve has lived as a neighborhood leader and activist. Ask any of the thousands of Ward 3 residents who have endured uncounted hours of deliberation during Planning Commission hearings, and they will testify to Steve's endurance, tenacity and predictability. Predictable in the integrity of his conclusions and votes. Predictable in his passion for doing the right thing for the City. Predictable in his tireless fight on behalf of the residents and businesses of Ward 3.

When surveying the landscape of our Downtown, you will see Steve's fingerprints on virtually every major effort and project to appear on the skyline in the last decade: Premium Outlets, World Market Center, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Smith Center for Performing Arts, SoHo Lofts, Newport, Jewel, Cabana Suites, Triple George, 3rd Street Promenade, Urban Lofts, Golden Nugget expansion, The Arts District, The Entertainment District ... all these, and hundreds more, were advocated, deliberated, supported and voted on, by Steve.

The core of Steve's belief, is a transparent government, that works for you, not against. He's committed to a culture of enablement whereby a city engenders to assist those who would seek to bring business, good development, and jobs, especially to the downtown core, and the many in-fill possibilities of a mature Ward like ours. As a participant of the city-sponsored Kirchhoff & Associates study, he is adamant in his resolve to ensure that its fundamental findings and recommendations are enacted.

Steve believes that, in a perfect world, thoughtfulness would render most city enforcement and regulation unnecessary. But until that dream is achieved, we need to be vigilant in fighting the decay of our neighborhoods. We need to keep foreclosed, investment-owned or abandoned homes from the deterioration which so often infects neighborhoods like a cancer. We need to hold banks and absentee landlords responsible for the blight which can ruin once-fine neighborhoods. Similarly, we need to hold those accountable who would create boardinghouses in single-family zoned communities; where pristine yards morph into parking lots, littered with dozens of cars. There is a place for that high-density residential. Steve calls it apartments.

As one of us, Steve is concerned about crime, appropriate zoning and planning, the need for community amenities, and how to sustain essential services in a very fragile and unpredictable economy. He recognizes that this is a very challenging time to govern. He is developing several innovative ideas and in the months ahead, will be exploring and sharing those concepts more fully.

Steve Evans is not a career politician, and has never sought to be one. He agreed to seek this office only after hearing the cacophony of pleas by dozens of neighborhood and community leaders. He doesn't fit the mold. Doesn't actively seek limelight, or his name in the paper. Thankfully, his talent exceeds his ego, and his army of grass-roots supporters believes his initial reluctance is exactly why he is the best choice, seeking this office for the right reasons.
