More recently, his Urban Lounge, Artifice, located in the heart of the Arts District, is another piece of the puzzle that, along with Soho, Resnicks, Globe Salon, Lady Silvia,  Newport, East Fremont,  Bar+Bistro, and the Arts Factory - is creating an Urban Landscape and meeting place - that I love to be a part of.  Trinity's friendly  temperament, sense of justice, integrity,  and innate knowledge of Urban Planning - will serve us well.  His commitment to neighborhoods,  and the Downtown in general, is unparalleled ......   Commissioner Trinity Haven Schlottman, is my hero.  Thank you to Councilman Coffin for your wisdom in this appointment.

After 10 years serving this City  as your Commisssioner, and the past year as Chairman of the Las Vegas Planning Commission - my heart is full.  I am pleased  beyond words to call your new Commissioner and Councilman - my friends.

With gratitude,

Steve Evans

STEVE EVANS AND A COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN

by Steve Evans on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 3:10am

April 5, 2011..........Vote Day.

The past many months have been both Exhilarating & Exhausting . I want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have carried us to this juncture. Those who have given your time, talent, money, and most of all - love, I am grateful beyond words. I have always contended that even though my name is on the ballot, this campaign is not about me - but about you. It's about those who see the possibilities and are making the dream of a community happen. These past months, well, years really, have made my hair grayer, challenged my time, and minimized my sleep.  And even though my time is stretched with Planning Commission, meetings, work, and the incredible rigors of a campaign....I am constantly in awe of the goodness and passion of those around me who are creating a community of better tomorrows. Even with the many challenges we face, collectively, we have come such a long way from just a few short years ago. We are on the cusp of something great. The Neighborhoods of Ward 3, and the vibrancy of the Downtown renaissance, is a testament to the tenacity of hope that you all share. I'm honored to have been a part of that progress.

As I reflect back to the beginning of this humble effort, I'm reminded of the contributions of so many. Our friend, Jerry Misko, artist and bon vivant - created an original logo. Wes Myles took photos and made me look as good as I could get. (the camera adds 65 pounds). Scott Swank and Greg and Jessica Brown secured a domain. Greg created flyers, organized events, and generally, rallied the troops, provided sage advice, and stood by my side...all while his plate was full with a new family and a gargantuan job....Michael Cornthwaite hosted a kick-off event at the DCR so long-ago it's a faded memory.... Brett Westley Gallery, Wes Myles Studio, Roberto Leyva's Soho LIVING PENTHOUSE, Craig Kenny's outrageous Law Office, the Bob Bellis Mansion, the El Cortez, and Artifice......all graciously allowed us use of their venues for fundraisers. Ryan Reason and Wes, were always there for photo help, and Wes has donated office space where our volunteers come-and-go each day. Prior to her quest for a Pulitzer,  Heidi Kyser did all our editing, and tried to organize our chaos. Fierro Communications helped us with Press Releases, and whenever asked, always there. Cindy Funkhouse created and maintained a Facebook Page. The Beat Coffee House kept us in  a Java-high, and was a great place to bring the suits for meetings amongst the cognoscenti. The vibrancy of  East Fremont and the Entertainment District has been our nightly Stomping ground. Tinoco's Kitchen sends me home with soup most days, and that business, like scores  of others - graciously display our great campaign signs. Sam Cherry and his Hoover Street gang, is a daily visit. Resnicks is full of our propaganda, and the Globe Salon just radiates with James & Staci's infectious smiles. Jack Levine chronicled our quest in his blog VeryVintageVegas, and the amazing Heidi Swank has been the official face of most all of our events, always there to greet and organize. (Not knowing she's a professor at UNLV, Senator Reid's staff observed her hostess skills at my house party, and offered her a job.) Brian "Paco" Alverez sent me a white paper a year and a half ago which is genius. His daily Facebook and Enculturate rants, keep us all informed, and his advice has been invaluable. David Mozes has spread the word through his extensive social media contacts, as has the irrepressible Laura Henkel.  My hero Adan Van Dam and his talented team of filmmakers at HypeFactor Films, Josh, Razi and Michael, chronicled our campaign and created all the great videos which you can see on our award winning web-site (well, it should get an award) which was designed by one of the finest souls I've ever met in my life - Trinity Haven Schlottman.  His Urban Loft Communities and now Artifice - are cornerstones of Urban Redevelopment. Tdiggs has been the Rock of this Campaign. The Michaels' of Downtown - Nolan and Cornthwaite - have helped at every turn. Peter Frigeri of Gaia Flowers and ExpoEase, is always there for us, as have all the Neighborhood Leaders. Marisol Montoya has directed our field operation, and led our canvassers to the Promised Land daily. Nearly 10 thousand doors have been knocked on, and many more thousands of pieces of  campaign literature has been disseminated. Pastor Joel Menchaca continues to honor me with his hispanic outreach, and Downtown Steve Franklin, even facing the challenge of his life - still spreads the word with his signature wit and humor.  The Beatties, what's not to love? My Flamingo Club peeps....all of you, I'm continually overwhelmed by your friendship and support!!  We are Family!

Perhaps it's my decades-long fight for our Neighborhoods. Maybe its my history of advocacy for Downtown Renaissance.  And I also suppose there could be a measure of serendipity. --but for whatever reasons, this community of kindred spirits - has enabled this Campaign and rallied in unimaginable ways..... I'd like to think that we all share a hope and vision.  And that when people cast their Vote for Steve Evans...it's really not a Vote for me...but a Vote for us!  I'm not really that special. But collectively, we are. I am humbled to be your candidate.

To all of you, and many more unknown or unacknowledged, my heart is full.

With Gratitude,

Steve
